4th Grade Mobile Fab Lab Visit

This project involved the students using the vinyl cutter to make decals for their service project. Before visiting with the Mobile Fab Lab, the children had to identify a community organization in need of help, then create a logo for print. The service projects were voted on by the staff and parents. Through this process, the children learned about vinyl cutting and what is negative space. In the next Fab Lab visit the 4th graders will continue cutting out of their decals and prepare to sell them.

ZERO WASTE CHALLENGE DAY

Thank you CIS parents and students for participating in the Zero Waste Challenge on Thursday, April 26th. We collected 90 + pounds of garbage produced during 4 lunch periods. That's less than half of what we typically produce during those lunch periods....but it's still a lot of trash! Let's make every day a Zero Waste Day, and continue to use reusable products to pack a healthy lunch!

Students in grades K-2 enjoyed a great morning meeting hearing about the actions of others in our school.  Students who were chosen as Knowledgeable Ambassadors in March were presented with their awards.

Matthew in 8th grade, shared his Community Project on Down Syndrome Awareness. We were very impressed with how well he presented and his ability to answer many of our questions. Matt also shared the timeline of his research and how much work went into his Community Project.

Mrs. Hawley's 4th grade class presented their action for the Waste Free Challenge Day on Thursday, April 26th (details below). We also celebrated April Birthdays. Natalie in Kindergarten and Zyen in grade 2 loved being able to dress up for their morning meeting.

We Are Knowledgeable!

It's that time of the year, when we get to show ALL we've learned and celebrate our commitment to coming to school and putting forth effort each day. Although, testing is stressful on everyone...students, staff, and parents. It is important that students understand how to test and why we need to pause in our learning and take this time to "check-in" on how we are progressing as learners, teachers, and a school. We want our students to be able to compete with students all over the world, and to make sure we are on-track, we have to be able to show what we know. I was amazed to see some of my former students in 6th grade on their testing day, walking in with such confidence. Reflecting on how far they've come. It's not "cool" anymore for me to acknowledge this in front of them or their peers...but my heart was so full of joy.

Confidence is a much better predictor of students' achievement than any other non-cognitive measure. It acts in a way that overcomes everything!

Many PYP classrooms took time to wish students in grades 3-8, good luck! We enjoyed "Prep" Rallies in all testing grades, Learner Profile t-shirts that students had friends and staff members sign with positive messages, teachers wrote notes to students, parents donated snacks, and students took a pledge to have a great attitude and to put forth their best effort. As an incentive to those who keep their pledge, dress down tickets can be earned and each grade level chose an end of the year fun day/dance for May.

Good luck to all of our students as you show just how KNOWLEDGEABLE you are!
We all believe in you!
