I love reading their weekly reflections and seeing how they planned their work each day. What a great life skill! This is how we organize ourselves.

Legislator for the Day!

Over spring break, Brooke got to experience being Legislator for the Day working with, Mike Dovilla. She entered a reading contest through our local library (Cleveland Public), and was chosen. This was her second time entering, and she was determined to enter every year until she was chosen. They chose one student from the surrounding cities in State Representative Mike Dovilla's district.  Brooke was able to learn how a bill becomes a law through a mock trial. The bill that was introduced was for a new state candy bar...Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Brooke debated how this was unfair due to people like her who have peanut allergies. The bill was amended and the Hershey Bar was chosen. I was very proud to see her being a risk-taker. They introduced a few more bills and received a tour of the Statehouse. This was our second visit to the Statehouse. Students at CIS get to take a trip there in grade 4. If you are ever in Columbus, they offer free public tours. It is very interesting.
