Poems, Picnics,Rock and Roll!

Ending our unit of inquiry, How We Express Ourselves has been so much fun! We were able to publish our poems that we worked on for 4 weeks. Using Kidblog all year has proven to be successful in improving keyboarding skills. As we learned the different strategies that poets use, we were able to edit and improve our poems. We wrote poems about our family, friends, small objects, places, culture, our school and teacher:)

During this unit we looked at different types of art, listened to different types of music, and read many fables, folktales and poetry books. We were able to see and compare the different forms of expression. To celebrate our hard work, we took a trip to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We were so excited to see the exhibits after learning about so many different musicians. Sadly, we will always remember that Prince passed away during this unit of inquiry. We enjoyed seeing his exhibit and singing some of the words to,  Purple Rain together.

Next year, in third grade, we will explore how people can use expression to take action and change the world. Ending our unit with our Red Noses was a great way to lead into this...wearing something so silly actually was our way of using expression to make the world a better place.
Thank you to all who purchased noses for our class. We were happy to know that our small action helped to improve the lives of other children.

Flowers Like You
By: Richard Matlock
Flowers smell like honey mixed with sugar so good.
It really does, when you touch it, it feels like crunchy leaves.
You can hear seeds sprouting just like you.
They look so unique and so beautiful,
JUST
LIKE

YOU!!
Cactus,Cactus,Cactus
By Emma Brazalovics
The cactus is green with white speckle spots.
It smells like paint… it does!
It is as hard as a rock.
It sure is!
And that cactus, I love it too!
Just for you!
Magnets

By: Ahniya Bates
Inspired by our unit of inquiry; How the World Works

MAGNETS ARE LIKE PEOPLE GETTING MARRIED. BECAUSE WHEN THEY STICK TOGETHER IT IS POSITIVE AND IT IS LIKE THE BRIDE AND GROOM ARE BOTH SAYING “I DO.” AND THEN WHEN THE MAGNETS ARE NEGATIVE IT IS LIKE THE BRIDE IS SAYING “I CAN’T DO THIS I AM SORRY. AND THAT IS WHAT I THINK OF MAGNETS, AMEN!
IDEA
By: Tristan Williams

THE CLOCK
By: Yazmeen Abdul-Wasi
CLOCKS MAKE ME THINK OF A HUGE COOKIE.
THE HANDS TELL YOU EVERY MINUTE.
 YOU GET TO EAT IT.
THE CLOCK NUMBERS TELL ME HOW MANY CHOCOLATE
CHUNKS THERE ARE
.
LITTLE TINY FRIDGE
I SAW A LITTLE TINY FRIDGE
THERE IS NOT MUCH TO IT
I SMELL COMPLETELY NOTHING
IT FEEL’S COLD,BUMPY, AND KINDA SMOOTHE
I PUT MY EAR AGAINST IT
AND I ONLY HEAR
BUZZING AND GROANING.

I SAW A LITTLE TINY FRIDGE WITH
ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING TO IT !!!

I see a computer.
It looks like an alligator opening its mouth!!!!
I hear what it says!!!!
I feel the skin of the alligator when I am dragging and pressing on the alligator’s skin. That’s what I think!!!!

THE ROUND PENCIL HOLDER
By: Siyona
THE PENCIL HOLDER LOOKS LIKE A CUP.
IT REMINDS ME OF A MINi TRASH CAN THAT HOLDS PENCILS.
WHEN I PUT MY PENCIL BACK IN IT MAKES A LOUD NOISE. BOOM!
WHEN I LOOK AT THE MINNY TRASH CAN
I THINK OF A ROUND PENCIL HOLDER.
I LOVE THE ROUND PENCIL HOLDER!

FAMILY
By: Destiny Hubbard
OH, MY FAMILY!
HOW I LOVE THEM!
THEY ARE SWEET AS ICE CREM
NOTHING WILL COME BETWEEN US
WE GO PLACES WITH EACH OTHER WE NEVER LEAVE ANYONE BEHIND
I LOVE EVERYONE
WE GIVE EACH OTHER THINGS
WE GO TO FUN PLACES
I LOVE WHEN THEY COOK
IT SMELL’S SO GOOD!
I LOVE WHEN WE GO TO THE PARK AFTER DINNER
MY FAMILY Is special if
ANYTHING HAPPENS TO THEM
I’LL BE SAD
My beloved family gives me everything.
I love my family
MY FAMILY
I have three brothers.
And a very, very nice mom.
And a dad that keeps me confident.
Even if I’m not so calm!!!

Message to mom: It's ok, grass stains are evidence of fun!!
I thought it was hilarious that they used the word "evidence." Think I made them "prove it" enough this year?

Best part of the day...seeing my kiddos demonstrate good sportsmanship. Jaelin and Yazmeen: "Come on, Alta. You can do it. We're here for you!" Alta: "Thank you, Jaelin. Thank you, Yazmeen!"

Love them!

Yep, that's me...because it's important that you model being a risk-taker (even when you're a little scared). I was able to get the entire class to try once I hopped on.

Thank you Shawn T. for improving my core. I needed it on this!!

Jaelin went back up the hill just to keep his favorite principal company! "Ms. Beers, I'm coming!!"

There once was a school where people worked very hard to make the world a better place. Parents cared, teachers were dedicated, and the students were worth it...this is not a fairy tale, folk tale, fable or myth. This place is called...
