Cleveland State University's Health fair and Women's basketball game
We enjoyed attending the game with our 4th grade book buddies, Mrs. Hawley's class.
Pajamas, Hot Cocoa, and The Polar Express!
This week, we worked on separating interesting details from important information when we research. After practicing this strategy, we worked on taking important information from our research and paraphrasing it. This wasn't easy at first. It forced us to think deeply about our vocabulary and how to merge our thinking with new information. We practiced these strategies with our Scholastic News magazines and then with our SOLE question of the week.
We've been earning classroom cash for completing our daily jobs, working with our teams on assignments, being respectful, and principled. We use our money to purchase goods from our classroom store. We're learning how people use money to buy goods and services in the world and in our school.
Mrs. Peckham, Eloise's mom, came in to teach us about the products that are made at Nestle (where she works in marketing). We didn't realize that Nestle produced so many goods! Of course we knew about their chocolate chips:)
Thank you for helping us understand why people work in job that produce specific goods and services. We have learned so much about interdependence and specialization. Many companies count on other producers in order to make their product.
Informing others of a good cause
Collaborating with others
Enjoying the holiday season with each other!
Happy Holidays! From, Roxy
Our Holiday Concert, The Knowledgeable Nutcracker
Sometimes you have to push work aside and go out and live...make memories that last a lifetime. That's exactly what we did after rehearsal on Thursday. The kids kept asking, "What are we doing, where are we going? We went to Playhouse to see the tree, hear the music, and make a few grown-ups laugh to see kids having so much fun. We danced and laughed until our cheeks were red. One student said, "This is the best day of my life!"
Learning about businesses and production connects well with our How To... writing
We know a lot and enjoyed teaching others in our many, How To... papers. We chose our favorite to turn into a book.
Learning about connections and using them to help us comprehend texts.
After completing our SOLE research on the question, Is it possible to live without money? We used Padlet for the first time to present our group findings. You can double click anywhere on the screen to add your notes. This is another way we are making learning and sharing engaging and fun!!!
Learning about the Productive Resources
We have a visitor in class! She sure is making each morning VERY exciting!! She is also helping us spread PEACE in our school and in our city. Make the world a better place...our school and IB mission!
We surprised Miss Ayesha with cards of thanks! She takes very good care of our environment including the students and their class pets!
Penelope left Tristan two bucketfiller slips this week! She has been so motivated by spreading PEACE and making our world a better place. She created a math club and write lesson plans each night to support friends where they are in their learning. She provides support for those who need it and enrichment for those who need a good challenge. Tristan gives up her recess to do this....and for those who know Tristan, this is a major act of kindness as she LOVES recess! Tristan has also been helping friends with logging onto the computers and learning their new IXL passwords!
We're spreading PEACE to a place very special to us....The Providence House
