We didn't have much schema on Hurricane Katrina, but some of us had prior knowledge of hurricanes. We read books about hurricanes to gain new information of what these storms are like (form). Then we began reading a historical fiction book, I Survived Hurricane Katrina, to see what it might have been like for an 8 year old living in the Lower Nine Ward of New Orleans on that frightful day (perspective). We also examined stories printed in the Plain Dealer Newspaper, to see how recovery has been going in New Orleans (change).
*form, perspective and change are 3 of our 8 key concepts that we use to guide our thinking and understanding in the PYP Programme
