Our First Week in Grade 3!

8/18/2016

Our first week was spent building a Caring Community. We investigated questions around teamwork, inclusion, compassion, and ways we learn. We read books and shared connections/experiences we had with the characters we read about. To share a little about me (for our new CIS students...and trying really hard to think of things my old group didn't already know), I shared songs each morning during arrival. Each song had a story. I encouraged students to think of songs that had meaning to them. It was a fun way to open the school year. Here was my song list.

Monday: Happy:  Pharrell Williams (a song that makes me feel good)
Tuesday: You Gotta Be: Desiree (a song that helped me through a difficult time)
Wednesday: Ain't No Mountain High Enough: Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell (a song that reminds me of my family)
Thursday: Don't Stop Believing:  Journey (a song from summer..CAVS welcome home at airport)
Friday: These are the Days:  10,000 Maniacs (a song that reminds me of best friends)

This turned into a family activity in my house as everyone began to reflect on songs and memories. You should try it!

The process we use for research is called SOLE. Watch our video below to see how this is done. You can support this process at home. The more experience your child has with researching and using the keyboard, the better prepared they will be for the online State assessments.
