MYP (6-8) Monday school meeting was tough as we had a moment of silence for the victims of the Las Vegas shooting. Our band and orchestra played songs dedicated to the victims and their families. It feels as if every other week we are having to think of how to deal with tough issues taking place in the world with our students. Sometimes the magnitude of it all is so much, that you are at a loss of words. A student said to me afterwards, "Mrs. Bechtel, can you believe what happened?" I stumbled to reply trying to find words as the educator, still so saddened by the news as a mom/wife/sister/daughter/friend . He said, "I know, some people just don't make good choices, I wonder why that guy wanted to hurt people?" I looked down at him and said, "I wonder too."

It's important for our students to see us as humans, dealing with real emotions...knowing that they aren't always easy to process, but we keep attempting to communicate and express ourselves in healthy ways...choosing our words carefully and respectfully. After our music department played for us, I felt proud to be surrounded by such caring  students and staff.

"Let's Dance 2017"

On Friday, October 6th we held our 3rd  Dance-a-Thon to raise money for classroom materials, field trips, and family events sponsored by our PCO (Parent Caring Organization).

To help us get the party started, as they have done each year, The CAVS Scream Team joined us for the kick-off!

We have many fun events at CIS...but the Dance-a-Thon is one of my favorite days of the year! Thank you so much PCO and CAVS Scream Team for the time you put into making this day so memorable...on top of the money that is raised. Thank you to ALL who donated near and far! It's  amazing to see all of the love from extended family, friends, and people who support our vision and mission.

Socktober!!!!

We will collect socks all month for the homeless. A box will be placed on each floor for students to turn in their donation of new socks.

For our All School Meeting on October 23rd, students will be able to wear their favorite pair of "Silly Socks" as we celebrate all of the socks donated.

Watch Kid President's video about Socktober.
